'There will be blood'
Harvard economic historian Niall Ferguson predicts prolonged financial hardship, even civil war, before the ‘Great Recession' ends
Let me put it this way, I put a little bit of money into a reverse ETF which basically makes money when the stock market slides. Right now, that's the only investment I own that is generating cash almost as fast as the US Treasury is printing it.
However, if you've been reading this blog long enough, hopefully y'all know what my best investment is, right? That investment isn't on this earth because this earth is crumbling away.
Here's the disconcerting link. Again, 'no thanks' to Legal Sodium :)
China's calling her loans
The comments at the above link have since been deleted, but thanks to LS, here they are:
and now for something potentially really scary:
http://market-ticker.denninger.net/archives/824-AIG-Inquiring-Minds-Want-To-Know.html
from the comments section:
1)So let me see if I have this right.
In September the Chinese threatened economic warfare on the US if we didn't make them whole on some of their US investments.
Bernake and Paulson met with top leaders in Congress to tell them that they had until Monday to give them the money to be funneled to the Chinese or else the Chinese would trigger the collapse of our economy.
So the TARP was a way to get this money to the Chinese without anyone really knowing about it. That's why we can't be told where exactly all the money has gone.
2)You know, the MSM has successfully avoided discovering where the TARP money went. Now that AIG has lost $60 billion in one quarter (I wonder how long that record will last? Dozens of years, or closer to dozens of days?), and AIG got so much money, it almost can't be avoided. Either it is found out and the phone lines to Congress melt, with accompanying street protests, or it remains covered up and confidence (what little is left) evaporates. We know what happens then. Hope you're all short.
This is surely a major league, class-of-its-own, multi-megaton-sized WTF event. If it turns out that we caved to Chinese blackmail, the markets will crash and historians might date the 2nd American Revolution to today.
Flashback: The day the economy almost died...and nobody bothered to tell you
During the last election campaign, it was said...
"It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama... [We're] gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy..."

Velkom to Amerika, comrade
(Stimulus Bill will be just in time to pay for new soup kitchens)
The noose around U.S banks' neck: the unknown
Panic about the fate of U.S. financial titans has led to concern that one might not survive the weekend. A high degree of uncertainty about the U.S. government's next move is only fanning the flames. And suddenly, the spectre of nationalization is gaining credulity among investors, economists and policy makers.

Iran is speeding ahead toward the production of a nuclear weapon, and is operating a shadow nuclear program in tandem with its public program to achieve that goal, a US analyst of the Islamic republic has said, following the publication of a UN report that suggests Tehran already has enough enriched uranium to build a bomb.
"Iran is moving full steam ahead, not only with uranium enrichment but missile development as well. It's going to reach its goal - whether nuclear weapons or remaining one step short of them - very soon, or it could be that they are indeed already at the 'one step before' stage,"
Netanyahu targets Iran after he is appointed PM
In a speech made outside the residence of President Shimon Peres, the Likud leader said that protecting Israel would be his greatest responsibility as leader, and condemned "formidable" challenges posed by the Islamic Republic.
However, he did not once mention the stalled Israeli-Palestinian peace process or a two-state solution throughout his address, omissions that will cause concern within an Obama administration determined to advance the peace process.

Straight out of Ezekiel 38 - Iran hails military ties with Russia
Russia's daily Kommersant has said earlier this week that Moscow had frozen the sale of S-300s, pending the first meeting between President Barack Obama and Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev.
Russia hopes that Obama could reverse course on the previous administration's plan to deploy missile defense sites in Poland and the Czech Republic, and NATO's eastward expansion.
'Somewhat' hawkish: Israel's new government is Netanyahu and Lieberman
Netanyahu picked to be Israel's next Prime Minister
Iran stocks enough enriched uranium for first nuclear bomb
DEBKAfile reported on Nov. 28, 2008, that by February, Iran would be able to approach production of its first nuclear bomb after accumulating enough enriched uranium.
The UN report also discloses that Iran had built a dome over its Arak heavy water reactor, preventing satellites from taking images of the facility,
DEBKAfile's military sources report that the Arak plant is the core of a program for processing plutonium for military purposes. The dome was a major project, but according to our sources, useless since both American and Israeli satellites have instruments for penetrating the structure.
All these developments mean that Iran has reached a “breakout capacity” – a stage that would allow it to produce enough fissile material for a bomb. This crosses a “red line” that for years Israel has said it would not accept.
Still the Bible says Persia, as part of a coalition, will be the aggressor. Israel won't start the war with Iran.
Ezekiel 38:
8 A long time from now you will be called into action. In the distant future you will swoop down on the land of Israel, which will be enjoying peace after recovering from war and after its people have returned from many lands to the mountains of Israel. 9 You and all your allies—a vast and awesome army—will roll down on them like a storm and cover the land like a cloud.

Lieberman recommends Netanyahu for PM; Livni wants no part of it
Iran has enough uranium for a nuclear bomb
“It appears that Iran has walked right up to the threshold of having enough low enriched uranium to provide enough raw material for a single bomb,” said Peter Zimmerman, a former chief scientist of the US Arms Control and Disarmament Agency.

Israel is involved in a covert war of sabotage inside Iran in an effort to delay Tehran's attempts to develop a nuclear weapon, the Daily Telegraph newspaper reported on Tuesday.
Daily Telegraph news story
"As US-Israeli relations are bound to come under strain over the Obama administration's outreach to Iran, and as the political atmosphere grows in complexity, an intensification of Israeli covert activity against Iran is likely to result...
But Vince Canastraro, the former CIA counter-terrorism chief, expressed doubts about the efficacy of secret Israeli operations against Iran. "You cannot carry out foreign policy objectives via covert operations," he said. "You can't get rid of a couple of people and hope to affect Iran's nuclear capability."

Right-wing 'extremist' Lieberman is king-maker in Israel's election
Interesting week in Israel politics lies ahead.
Well how about that? The truth is: The IDF did NOT shell UNRWA school
Israeli defense officials noted that in two previous reports, the UN had stated that the IDF attack had been against the school and not outside the school.
Lies are continuing to discredit the UN. Advice to the UN: get out of the way or the God of Israel will clear you out for good.
British College Student Blows Himself up in Somalia Killing 20
But hey, lets all focus on keeping Geert Wilders from entering the country.
DEBKAfile was right about the Gaza war, are they also right about the following story? If so, things could quickly heat up between Israel and Iran. Keep watch!
Russia close to selling S-300 anti-air missiles to Iran for its nuclear sites
Their acquisition would make an air attack on Iran's nuclear facilities extremely difficult and dangerous. [in other words: If Israel is ever going to attack, she needs to attack Iran before these are delivered and installed]
Israel's red line: The S-300 missile system
... defense reporters have speculated widely that the operational deployment of the S-300 air-defense system would represent a “red line” for an Israeli air strike on Iran. This is because the SA-20/S-300 represents a nearly insurmountable obstacle for conventional aircraft, according to air power experts.
“For non-stealth aircraft, the SA-20 represents a virtual no-fly zone,” said retired United States Air Force General Richard E. Hawley.

Iran next target, warns Israeli diplomat
A SENIOR Israeli diplomat has warned that Israel is ready to launch a military offensive against Iran to prevent it from developing nuclear weapons.
Makes a lot of sense: hit Hamas (Iran's proxy close to southern population centers) then go for Iran's throat.
Israel airstrikes over Gaza greet Hamas ceasefire swindle
Instead of signing [the ceasefire agreement], Hamas used the time gained to restock its arsenal after the beating it took from Israel's Gaza operation last month and regroup for a fresh cross-border offensive.
Israel, Iran likely to clash in 2009 says US intelligence chief
Israel and Iran are liable to enter into a confrontation or a crisis sometime this year due to Tehran's progress in its nuclear weapons program and Jerusalem's determination to thwart it, the head of U.S. intelligence told lawmakers on Thursday.
US now sees Iran as pursuing nuclear bomb
Little more than a year after U.S. spy agencies concluded that Iran had halted work on a nuclear weapon, the Obama administration has made it clear that it believes there is no question that Tehran is seeking the bomb.
Cyprus unloads Iranian weapons shipment alledgedly (read: almost certainly) destined for Hamas or Hezb'allah

Like the Bible says: Don't put your trust in money, and here's why...
Shocker: Electronic Money Market Run Nearly Destroyed US Economy (last year...September 18th)
It's amazing this was said on C-SPAN on Thursday, January 27th, and no other major news source picked up on it.
US officials are publicly taking a wait-and-see approach to the formation of a new Israeli government, but privately many have expressed concern that Likud leader Binyamin Netanyahu might preside over a right-wing coalition.
Personally I'm praying for a "right of right" coalition with Lieberman. From what I've seen of Obama so far, he is fumbling in the dark, professing a Christian faith but rebelling against his Creator. It's time for Israel to stand up alone against Iran, Hamas, Hezbollah, al Qaeda, etc. With the help of the God of Jacob who can stop them?
Isaiah 63:
2 Why are your clothes so red,
as if you have been treading out grapes?
no one was there to help me.
In my anger I have trampled my enemies
as if they were grapes.
In my fury I have trampled my foes.
Their blood has stained my clothes.
4 For the time has come for me to avenge my people,
to ransom them from their oppressors.
5 I was amazed to see that no one intervened
to help the oppressed.
So I myself stepped in to save them with my strong arm,
and my wrath sustained me.

...the polls showed voters clearly prefer hard-line parties, predicting Likud and its conservative allies would hold a solid majority in the 120-seat parliament. Such results would likely spell trouble for the U.S.-led Israeli-Palestinian peace talks.
Here we go again
The current economic crisis resembles the Japanese crisis of the 1990's - only this is much worse
The crux of our current crisis is housing, just as Japan’s crisis was related to real estate. Irrational exuberance, as described by Yale economist Robert Shiller, led to the most outrageous housing boom in U.S. history. It was aided and abetted by greedy investment bankers, sleazy mortgage brokers, dishonest appraisers, Alan Greenspan, clueless ratings agencies, and Congressmen in the back pocket of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Delusional home buyers were convinced that flipping houses was a road to riches. Instead, they’ve skidded off the road and fell into a bottomless pit.

Netanyahu secretly warns Hamas
Threatens to wipe out leadership in Syria (Damascus) and Gaza if rockets continue.
Netanyahu's message warned if Hamas' terrorist attacks continue from Gaza, he could target its top leaders in both Gaza and Syria even if such actions would result in a confrontation with Syria.
Hosea 3: 4 This shows that Israel will go a long time without a king or prince, and without sacrifices, sacred pillars, priests, or even idols! 5 But afterward the people will return and devote themselves to the Lord their God and to David’s descendant, their king. In the last days, they will tremble in awe of the Lord and of his goodness.
Jeremiah 30:
1 The Lord gave another message to Jeremiah. He said, 2 “This is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says: Write down for the record everything I have said to you, Jeremiah. 3 For the time is coming when I will restore the fortunes of my people of Israel and Judah. I will bring them home to this land that I gave to their ancestors, and they will possess it again. I, the Lord, have spoken!”
4 This is the message the Lord gave concerning Israel and Judah. 5 This is what the Lord says:
“I hear cries of fear;
there is terror and no peace.
6 Now let me ask you a question:
Do men give birth to babies?
Then why do they stand there, ashen-faced, hands pressed against their sides like a woman in labor? 7 In all history there has never been such a time of terror. It will be a time of trouble for my people Israel.[a] Yet in the end they will be saved!
8 For in that day,”
says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies,
“I will break the yoke from their necks
and snap their chains.
Foreigners will no longer be their masters.
9 For my people will serve the Lord their God
and their king descended from David—
the king I will raise up for them.
See the order there? Israel has come home and is now returning to a life of peace and quiet (verse 10). No "future Anti-Christ" will put them through what they already endured in the Holocaust.

Hamas leader Khaled Meshal thanked Iran on Monday for many kinds of assistance but omitted any mention of the military aid that Israel and the United States have accused Iran of providing the Islamist movement that controls the Gaza Strip.

Iran's first satellite launch demonstrates possession of nuclear capable rocket
The launch of Omid (Hope), Iran's first home-made satellite into orbit early Tuesday, Feb. 3, is a breakthrough demonstrating the Islamic Republic has managed to develop long-range, three-stage, solid fuel ballistic rockets capable of carrying nuclear warheads.
Seems to me the march toward a nuclear confrontation with Iran has sped up considerably since Obama took office. When is Obama going to get down to serious business and have coffee and donuts with Ahmadinejad?

Details of protests and developments as a result of the global financial crisis...
Israel suffered horribly for her disobedience, but she is about to be fully restored
by the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob/Israel
This file photo from the Paris' Holocaust Memorial
25 “So now, this is what the Sovereign Lord says: I will end the captivity of my people; I will have mercy on all Israel, for I jealously guard my holy reputation! 26 They will accept responsibility for their past shame and unfaithfulness after they come home to live in peace in their own land, with no one to bother them. 27 When I bring them home from the lands of their enemies, I will display my holiness among them for all the nations to see. 28 Then my people will know that I am the Lord their God, because I sent them away to exile and brought them home again. I will leave none of my people behind. 29 And I will never again turn my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit upon the people of Israel. I, the Sovereign Lord, have spoken!”
May more people have eyes to see before it is too late because Christ is coming back this time not as a baby, but in judgment.
Netanyahu says Iran will not get hands on nukes
In an interview with Israel's Channel 2 TV, Netanyahu said if elected prime minister his first mission will be to thwart the Iranian nuclear threat. Netanyahu, the current opposition leader and head of the hardline Likud party, called Iran the greatest danger to Israel and to all humanity.
