A war of "hit and run"

War tensions rise between Syria and Israel amid soothing words on both sides. Gen. Kaplinksy’s departure delayed "Intelligence data and ground activity add up to the presumption that Syria is planning a campaign of hit-and-run cross-border attacks against Israeli border patrols and positions in Golan and attempts to take hostages. OC Northern Command Maj. Gen. Gad Eisenkott and senior officers briefed the prime minister on their preparations in anticipation of such attacks."

Isaiah 14

24 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has sworn this oath:

“It will all happen as I have planned.
It will be as I have decided.
25 I will break the Assyrians when they are in Israel;
I will trample them on my mountains.
My people will no longer be their slaves
nor bow down under their heavy loads.
26 I have a plan for the whole earth,
a hand of judgment upon all the nations.
27 The Lord of Heaven’s Armies has spoken—
who can change his plans?
When his hand is raised,
who can stop him?”

Watch for Damascus to be leveled:

Isaiah 17

1 This message came to me concerning Damascus:

“Look, the city of Damascus will disappear!
It will become a heap of ruins.
2 The towns of Aroer will be deserted

Flocks will graze in the streets and lie down undisturbed,
with no one to chase them away.
...
12 Listen! The armies of many nations
roar like the roaring of the sea.
Hear the thunder of the mighty forces
as they rush forward like thundering waves.
13 But though they thunder like breakers on a beach,
God will silence them, and they will run away.
They will flee like chaff scattered by the wind,
like a tumbleweed whirling before a storm.
14 In the evening Israel waits in terror,
but by dawn its enemies are dead.
This is the just reward of those who plunder us,
a fitting end for those who destroy us.

Zechariah 12:
1 This message concerning the fate of Israel came from the Lord: “This message is from the Lord, who stretched out the heavens, laid the foundations of the earth, and formed the human spirit. 2 I will make Jerusalem like an intoxicating drink that makes the nearby nations stagger when they send their armies to besiege Jerusalem and Judah. 3 On that day I will make Jerusalem an immovable rock. All the nations will gather against it to try to move it [i.e. land concessions for a false peace], but they will only hurt themselves.

4 “On that day,” says the Lord, “I will cause every horse to panic and every rider to lose his nerve. I will watch over the people of Judah, but I will blind all the horses of their enemies. 5 And the clans of Judah will say to themselves, ‘The people of Jerusalem have found strength in the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, their God.’

Points to ponder:
  • Many nations are gathered around Israel today. The UN has the following countries contributing to UNIFIL peacekeeping forces on Israel's border with Lebanon: Belgium, China, Cyprus, Denmark, Finland, France, FYR of Macedonia, Germany, Ghana, Greece, Guatemala, Hungary, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Nepal, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Republic of Korea, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain, Sweden, Tanzania and Turkey.
  • The UN has the following countries contributing to UNDOF peacekeeping forces on Israel's border with Syria: Austria, Canada, India, Japan, Poland and Slovakia.
  • Syria is preparing to invade the mountains of Israel. (the Golan Heights)
  • Take a look at the charts on the right margin of this blog. 1948 and 1967 were milestone years in God's Jewish Calendar
  • Although they don't know it, Israel's enemies (esp. Ahmadinejad) are quoting directly from Psalm 83:
    • 4 "Come," they say, "let us destroy them as a nation,
that the name of Israel be remembered no more."

Luke 21:29-36
29He told them this parable: "Look at the fig tree and all the trees. 30When they sprout leaves, you can see for yourselves and know that summer is near. [Israel is sprouting leaves people!] 31Even so, when you see these things happening, you know that the kingdom of God is near.

32"I tell you the truth, this generation[a] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 33Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

34"Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.35For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth. 36Be always on the watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man."
