Canada's not breaking up any time soon.

Basically other parties in Canada's government ganged up on the ruling party by forming a coalition. To avoid being defeated, the leader of the ruling party has "prorogued" or basically shut down the federal government until Jan 26 when he and his party will present the annual budget.

I wouldn't call it a crisis, yet, but looks more like a power play by a coalition of left-wing parties against the only right wing party left in Canada. It SURE would be nice if we had a functional and cooperative government to deal with the worldwide financial mess but a couple insolent babies in our capital want to cause trouble and make a run for power instead.

It doesn't bother me much. I've long written off Canadian politics, and have in fact not voted in the last two federal elections. I pray for our leader but generally they've all "gone to hell" with their policies and egos, and none offer a viable choice for me as a Christian.

The problem Canada is having is that the country is broken up into very different regions, each supporting a different party. With such a fractured government with many parties, no one party has enough votes for effective governance.

If all else fails I can always move to the US and enjoy all the Obamania and prosperity (??)

thanks for the news and explaination. the u.s. seems sometimes to be forming into different geographic/political regions.

re obamania: the right is almost happier w/ obama so far than the left, at least the far left. i still predict a poor presidency, but if he sticks with centrist personnel and policies maybe it won't be a complete catastrophe. hillary threatened to "obliterate" iran during the primary election.
